Sophia Berdar

Sophia Berdar, age 72, of New Salem, PA passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, October 24th, at her home.

She was born on June 26th, 1951 in Uniontown, PA

Daughter of the late George Berdar and Mary Vacha

Sophia was very active in The Holy Trinity Orthodox Church of New Salem, where she served as secretary, Sunday School Teacher, and cantor. She was a member of New Salem Neighborhood Watch and The Ladies Auxiliary of The Masontown Volunteer Fire Department, where she served as secretary for both of these organizations.

Sophia was a retired school teacher with The Uniontown Area School District.

In addition to her parents, Sophia was preceded in death by her sister: Katherine Berdar

Sophia is survived by her aunt: Barbara Lovis

uncle: Harry Berdar and wife Maxine

six Godchildren: Soffiya and Zoowey Allamon; Cadens and Wesley; Lisa Beth Gobbie, and Denise Marie Acquavina.

Also survived by her two dogs: Rascal and Misha

Friends will be received in The Dearth Funeral Home 35 South Mill Street New Salem, PA on Sunday, October 29th from 2-8PM. Additional Visitation will be held on Monday, October 30th from 10:00AM until 11:00AM at The Holy Trinity Orthodox Church 91 South Mill Street New Salem, PA. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00AM with The Very Rev. Fr. Vitaly Dudkin as Celebrant. Interment will follow in The Holy Trinity Orthodox Cemetery.

A Panachida Service will be held on Sunday evening at 7:00PM.
