Obituary

William G. Rostich, age 99, of Footedale, PA died peacefully at his home on Saturday, September 2nd, 2023.

He was born on July 6th, 1924 in Margurite, PA

Son of the late Michael and Anna (Puscak) Rostich

William graduated from Uniontown High School on June 16th, 1943. He was drafted into service during WWII after graduation. He served in World War II with The United States Navy and was active service from June 12th 1943 until March 4th, 1946 with The United States Seabees. William served in England, Normandy, France, Omaha Beach, Phillippine Islands, and China. He was awarded The WWII Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Medal with 1 Bronze Star, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and The Expert Rifleman Badge. In 2021, he was awarded the French Legion of Honor Award.

William was a member of St. Francis of Assisi R.C. Church of Footedale, PA, a member of The VFW Post #47 of Uniontown, PA, American Legion Post #753 of New Salem, Footedale Volunteer Fire Department where he served many years as President, The Circle Club of Uniontown, The United Mine Workers of America #1248, and worked at Maple Creek Mine.

William was noted for his letters to the editor and was involved with several groups about the development of Fayette County.

sisters: Ann Carlson, Eve Rostich, and Mary Tandarich

brothers-in-law: Arthur Carlson and George Tandarich

sister-in-law: Margaret Novak Roscheck

William is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and special friends, Joyce Novak and her family of Penncraft, PA

Friends will be received in The Dearth Funeral Home 35 South Mill Street New Salem, PA on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8PM and on Thursday until 9:30AM where a Prayer Service will be held followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00AM at St. Francis of Assisi R.C. Church of Footedale, PA with the Rev. Fr. Anthony Cortado as Celebrant.

Interment will take place at The National Cemetery of The Alleghenies in Bridgeville, PA where Full Military Honors will be accorded.

The Footedale Volunteer Fire Department will conduct a service on Wednesday evening at 7:00PM in the funeral home.

We would like to acknowledge the people that took wonderful care of William during this time. Bill's family of caring angels: Shelby, Pattie, Michelle, Cindy, Donna, Riki, and Nikki. A grateful appreciation to his nurse, Lindsay and his aide, Breanna. We also would like to thank Pastor Ken for his spiritual guidance and all the wonderful and compassionate care from everyone at Amedisys Hospice in Uniontown, PA.

You all made Bill's transition to paradise a comfortable journey and we thank you.
